PL-4 (CIP596131.4): an Improved Potato Haploid Inducer

Abstract Dihaploid production from elite tetraploid cultivars is key to both traditional and novel breeding approaches that seek simplify potato genetics. For this purpose, efficient widely compatible haploid inducers (HIs) are needed. We compared PL-4, a new HI developed at the International Potato Center, known HIs IvP101 IvP35. By pollination of lines, we showed PL-4 performed significantly better had homogeneous response regardless genetic background pistillate parents, on most important efficiency traits—number dihaploids per 100 fruits induction rate. Moreover, exhibited reduced proportion hybrid seeds, convenient trait for screening. In context, recommend as an enhanced community.
